Olíuverð er núna það lægsta í 6 vikur, eða rúmlega $125 tunnan af olíu. Síðustu vikur þá hefur olíuverð fallið um rúmlega $20 frá því þegar það var sem hæst, eða úr $147. Núna er spurning hvenar olíufélög hérna á landi lækka bensín og dísel verðið hérna á landi niður í það sem það var fyrir 6 vikum síðan. Allavega talaði talsmaður eins þessa olíufélags um að bensín og dísel verð hérna á landi myndi alltaf endurspegla olíuverð útí heimi. Núna þurfa olíufélögin að standa við það sem þau fullyrða, annars ætti að gera lögreglurannsókn á verðmyndun hjá þeim.

Oil prices fall to six-week low

Oil prices have fallen to a six-week low as US energy demand fell and a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico appeared to be missing oil facilities.

US light sweet crude fell as low as $125.63 a barrel, well off its 11 July peak above $147 a barrel.

Petrol consumption in the US is 2.2% below last year’s levels, according to a MasterCard survey, suggesting that higher prices are hitting demand.

But oil prices are still almost 30% above their level at the start of 2008.

$20 decline

London Brent crude fell $3.23 to $129.38 a barrel on Tuesday.

„We’ve now seen more than a $20 decline in the crude oil market from the highs and this suggests that we’ve seen enough of a shift in the supply and demand balance on a larger scale to cap the market,“ said Tim Evans, energy analyst for Citi Futures Perspective.

There was relief in the market that the approaching Hurricane Dolly would not have a big impact on oil and gas production.

The US Minerals Management Service announced earlier on Tuesday that only 5% of oil and gas production in the US had been shut down.

The dollar strengthening against the euro also put pressure on oil prices as crude has been used as a hedge against the weakening US currency.

Mér þykja viðskiptahættir olíufélaganna vera mjög furðulegir um þessar mundir. Sérstaklega í ljósi þess að verð á olíu erlendis er núna rúmlega $10 lægra en þegar það var sem hæst. Um daginn var verð á olíu hæst $147 og verðið á bensíni hérna á landi miðast ennþá við það olíuverð meira eða minna. Það er ekki hægt að kenna þessu bensínverði á gengið, það er mjög svipað og það var þegar olíuverðið var sem hæst og gengið breytist ekkert um helgar.

Samkvæmt frétt AP, þá er olían komin í rúmlega $130 á mörkuðum í Asíu.

Það þarf greinilega að framkvæma rannsókn á olíufélögnum. Þessi verðlagning hjá þeim getur ekki átt sér eðlilegar skýringar.

Mér finnast rök Vodafone fyrir hækkunni vera frekar undarleg. Það er nú þegar rándýrt að tala í farsíma á Íslandi og virðist stefna í að það verði dýrara fyrir fólk að nota farsímann eftir þetta.

Þetta er önnur hækkun á gjaldskrá Vodafone á þessu ári. Síminn hefur hækkað gjaldskrá sína einu sinni á þessu ári. Spurning hvot að Síminn eigi einnig eftir að hækka líka. Það væri þeim líkt, í allri græðginni.

Iceland’s economy ‘under attack’

Iceland is considering intervention in its currency and stock markets to fight hedge funds that it says are attacking its financial system.

The country’s prime minister, Geir Haarde, told the Financial Times that it was being unfairly targeted.
The Icelandic currency has lost a quarter of its value against the euro this year as rumours of a financial and banking crisis have swirled.
Last week, the country’s central bank made an emergency interest rate rise.
„The central bank and the government have several means at their disposal to influence this situation and we have not used all of them yet,“ Mr Haarde said.
„We would like to see these people off our backs and we are considering all the options available.“
He said hedge funds wanted to make a profit „by hook or by crook“.

Rumours swirl

The government believes that speculators may have spread false rumours to create fears of a banking crisis in order to profit from short positions on the Icelandic krona and stock market.
Short positions are bets that a stock or currency will fall in value.
The country’s financial watchdog has launched an investigation into the the alleged market manipulation.

Samkvæmt frétt BBC News þá er verðið á olíutunnunni komið í 100 dollara tunnuna. En verðið hefur fallið vegna þess að hugsanlegt er að Saudi Arabía ætli sér að auka olíuframleiðslu á næstu dögum eða vikum.

Oil touches $100 on Saudi remarks

Crude oil prices fell as the dollar strengthened and Saudi Arabia said it was working to expand production.

At one point US light sweet crude fell to $100.02 per barrel in Asian trade. It later stood at $101.46 in New York.
Commodities, including oil, have been sensitive to changes in the dollar’s value and the latest rebound for the dollar has weakened oil prices.

Also Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that it is investing in oil infrastructure to help meet future demand.
Saudi Arabia has been under pressure from the US to help ease soaring oil prices.
On Saturday US Vice-President Dick Cheney met Saudi leaders in Riyadh to discuss oil prices.

On Sunday the Saudi, the Supreme Council of Petroleum and Mineral Affairs said in a statement: „The kingdom will work with OPEC countries, other producers and consuming countries towards oil market stability and to avoid the effects of harmful speculation.“
Analysts say that speculators, who have helped drive up the price of oil, are taking the opportunity to cash-in on their gains.
„I think there’s still a lot of profit taking in the market and that is pushing down oil prices,“ said Tetsu Emori, a fund manager at Astmax in Tokyo.
„The US dollar is also bouncing back from major currencies, so that’s adding to the downward pressure.“

Ég reikna með að olíufélögin á Íslandi lækki verðið strax á morgun. Enda eiga olíufélögin lítið að birgðum núna og nýjar bensín og olíubirgðir að koma inní landið fljótlega, á lægra verði.
